Job Description:
Our client seeks a Head of Sustainable Agriculture to lead responsible sourcing efforts for key crops, primarily palm, focusing on environmental and social impact, zero deforestation, Scope 3 emissions reduction, and uman rights compliance. This role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders for crops like palm, soy, wheat, and corn, developing strategies and engagement initiatives, exploring partnerships, and supporting sustainability initiatives across the business units. The role requires both practical stakeholder engagement and a big-picture perspective.


Job Summary:

  1. Develop Sustainable Sourcing Policy and Roadmaps: Assess risks within the value chain of key crops, create sustainable sourcing policies, and outline roadmaps to address environmental, social, and carbon impact risks.
  2. Execute Forest and Climate Reduction Targets: Support the implementation of Forest and Climate Reduction targets within functions, Business Groups, and Business Units, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals.
  3. Manage Sustainable Sourcing Implementation: Establish time-bound action plans, review processes and
    procedures, guide stakeholders, and coordinate efforts to ensure the adoption of sustainable sourcing policies and strategies.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting: Handle supplier grievances, facilitate resolutions, and guide supplier pool decisions. Develop effective supplier engagement strategies, identify partnership opportunities along the value chain, and track and report progress internally and externally, focusing on forest milestones and Scope 3 emissions related to key commodities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Drive Zero Deforestation and Scope 3 Emissions Roadmaps: Collaborate within a cross-functional team to
    develop and execute roadmaps for achieving Zero Deforestation and Scope 3 emissions reduction. Provide guidance and influence internal stakeholders in Business Groups to enhance performance in these areas.
  2. Enhance Traceability and Deforestation Monitoring: Establish full traceability for palm products, employ satellite imagery to monitor deforestation risks, and conduct direct land-use change emissions analysis.
  3. Stakeholder Communication and Reporting: Consult with and guide internal and external stakeholders on
    sustainable peat management, contribute to roadmap development. Additionally, support the preparation of reports, surveys, and questionnaires for customers and organizations, including utilizing industry tools like NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation) and IRF (Implementation Reporting Framework). Communicate progress and milestones in reducing Forest and Scope 3 emissions for key commodities.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
● Climate and Forest programs corporate targets achievement
● Contribution to supplier engagement and progress KPIs

Work Experience:

  • Min 10 years in a similar position in the Food industry, regional/global scope.
  • Experience in MNCs/region leaders/global sustainable commodities association (RSPO, WWF, others).
  • Experience with palm sustainability and excellent understanding of palm stakeholders in the supply chain.
  • Knowledge on practices in oil palm plantations and mills, sustainability certification and requirement, and conversation on sustainable development goals.
  • Sustainability proven track record of 10+ years as well as Climate Change related projects can be a strong advantage.
  • Project Management experience in complex organizational blueprints and value chains is a strong advantage.
